As a cabaret MC my comedic characters fearlessly interact with audiences, improvising and belting out tunes.
Cabaret Kite at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre became an institution with its blend of live music, physical theatre, stand-up from a fabulous array of emerging and established artists from the Central West and beyond.
My stage works with Drew Fairley have toured nationally and internationally with sold out seasons at Sydney Festival, Melbourne Comedy Festival, Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe, Hong Kong and Philadelphia.
For screen I co-wrote and presented ‘Kate and Julia’ with Julia Zemiro, appeared in sketch shows, tele movies, award-winning shorts, the odd soap and a slew of commercials.
My work has been supported generously by Create NSW, Regional, Arts Fund and Regional Arts NSW, Arts On Your, Playing Australia and V8 Supercars.

Community Projects

Fast Cars & Dirty Beats conceived by Kate Smith was both an arts and community capacity building project about the beating heart of Bathurst- Wahluu-Mt Panorama the iconic mountain- and what it means to us all. Guided by deep consultation with the Bathurst Wiradjuri elders from its inception, the project explored the importance of belonging and sense of place wrapped in spectacle and celebration. Over three years, Kate staged a series of site-specific community events and workshops including large-scale puppetry, lantern-making, storytelling and drumming circles, engaging community and professional arts practitioners. The project culminated in the sold out premiere of FAST CARS the musical in an old Agricultural shed at the foot of the mountain.
